The Lost City of Petra

Petra.

Probably built as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Nabetean, now Petra is practically the face of Jordan tourism. At her golden time this monumental city was like New York for U.S for today, bustling with people that lived in the caves carved on the hills surrounding this city. Petra is situated nearby the inhabitant Wadi Musa where you can stay. It can be reached easily from Amman (250 km to the south) and 100 km to the north of Aqaba.
Interesting Most of the beautiful and grand buildings served as tombs, including the famous 'The Treasury' a.k.a Al-Khazneh which is was also a tomb.
Awesome Rent a Camel or a Donkey and act like you are a merchant in the age of no-internet by riding it all the way through the Siq (the breathtaking winding 1.2 km long and narrow gorge served as the entrance to the city), and climb up to the Monastery that is located on top the hill deep far inside the city.
Tips The entrance fee is quite expensive but it's a huge place, still it's possible to cover all the city in one day. Start it first thing in the morning, and bring a lot of water (and a box of lunch!). You should be in a physically fit condition to do this, since no taxis or motorized vehicles are permitted to enter the site. Find a place to stay in Wadi Musa for at least two nights to accommodate that plan.

Next Plan?
Transportation: JETT Bus leaves from Abdali in Amman for a 4-hours trip to Wadi Musa. Or you can take Public Minibus that locals usually use from Mujamaa Janobi Station in Amman from 9.00h to 16.00h that also takes you to Wadi Musa. The public minibus costs less then Jett bus, but also take a longer time since there willl be a lot of stops along the way for passengers to get on and off.
Accommodation: Most of the accommodation in Wadi Musa will provide transportation to and from Petra. They also arrange to pick you up and take you to the bus station/stop on your arrival/departure. Just make sure to book for the accommodation in advance. In a low season, they would offer to pick you up even if you haven't made any booking yet. One the Hotel that is conveniently situated 100 m from the entrance of Petra is Mövenpick Petra and few others. For budget, lots of options are available.

Al Khazneh a.k.a The Treasury. The light comes from the Siq which is situated right in front of this beautiful magnificent building.

Bedouin stall on the way to the top of the hill. There are many Bedouin people who stay there and try to make some money from selling things like jewellery from beads or stones, and of course drinks and foods, which you really need after battered with heat and being tired on your way up there   bedouin, petra, jordan, wadi musa, desert, nabatean, travel, tombs, ancient, archeology, history, desert, travelliptico

Stairs to heaven? No... this is the typical way to go up the hill of Petra
